Kerry Way Walkers raise over €680,000 for Cancer Research

The Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk, which took place in Sneem, Co. Kerry from the 1st to 3rd of July, attracted over 130 walkers from across Ireland and raised over €48,000 for cancer research programmes at Breakthrough Cancer Research’s laboratory, the Cork Cancer Research Centre (CCRC). The fundraising walk is an annual fundraising event that has gone from strength to strength over the last ten years and has raised over €680,000 to date for cancer research in Ireland.

The walk took place over three days, covering 50 kilometers of beautiful Kerry scenery. The walk incorporated impressive mountain views, dramatic peaks and glens, wild moorlands, wooded paths and lakes along the Kerry Way trails.

General Manager at CCRC, Declan Soden stated “2016 was a fantastic year for the Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk raising €48,000 over the weekend in July. We are so grateful to the support of the walkers and sponsors without whom this event would not have been possible. Everyone has been affected in some way by cancer; through their own experience or the experience of someone they love. The money raised each year from the Kerry Way Walk is vital as it helps us to provide world class research into poor prognosis cancers.”

Declan Soden continued, “On behalf of the staff and patients at the CCRC we would like to thank all the walkers, the organising committee, walk leaders, sweepers, ground crew who donate their time and energy each year to make this event a success every year. We couldn’t run such an enjoyable walk without the sponsors who have so kindly helped us again this year, including: Allfresh Wholesale Ltd, Butlers Chocolates, Deep Riverrock, Dunne’s Stores (Curraheen Road), Fyffes, Hallissey & Co Ltd, Irish Examiner, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Keelings, MSL Motor Group, Nature Valley, PepsiCo, Sam Dennigan, Tipperary Water. Thank you to everyone involved and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year for an event bigger event!”
